Lazio pulled off a late 2-1 victory at Viktoria Plzen despite playing with nine men, while AS Roma defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-1 at home in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 match on Thursday thanks to a stoppage-time goal.
With a 3-0 victory over Olympiacos, Bodo/Glimt advanced significantly to the quarterfinals, while Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Ajax Amsterdam 2-1.
Roma blew two good chances to take the lead in the first half. Paulo Dybala thundered a shot off the crossbar after Artem Dovbyk lost his footing while attempting to strike the ball after he had gotten past the Bilbao defence and into the area.
When Iñaki Williams headed in from close range five minutes after the half, Bilbao took the lead. However, after Zeki Celik cut back, Angelino’s shot went in off the post, bringing Roma even.
After Yeray Alvarez was given a second booking, Bilbao was reduced to ten men five minutes from the end, and Roma won late thanks to a goal from Eldor Shomurodov on the turn.
Alessio Romagnoli’s header gave Lazio the lead after eighteen minutes, but Rafiu Durosinmi’s unmarked header from close range earned the Czech team a point after the interval.
In the 98th minute, Gustav Isaksen curled a shot into the top corner to give the Italian team the victory, but Lazio had already sent off Nicolo Rovella and Samuel Gigot in added time.
After 13 minutes, Jostein Gundersen’s header bounced down off the crossbar and was knocked into his own net by Olympiacos keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, giving Bodo/Glimt the lead.
Ole Blomberg’s cross was tapped in by Kasper Hoegh just before halftime, giving the home team a two-goal lead. Hoegh scored again from close range after the interval.
With a three-goal lead over the Conference League winners from the previous season, the Norwegian team will be confident in their chances of making it to Greece.
Brian Brobbey’s header gave Ajax the lead in the tenth minute, but Hugo Larsson’s strong long-range effort, which deflected slightly off Brobbey, gave Frankfurt the equaliser.
Ansgar Knauff’s pass was completed by Ellyes Skhiri for Frankfurt to win 20 minutes from the end.
Joshua Zirkzee gave Manchester United the lead 12 minutes after halftime, but Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty kick 20 minutes from the end gave the home team the equaliser. Earlier, Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad.
Rangers defeated Fenerbahce 3-1 with a double from Vaclav Cerny, while Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 at AZ Alkmaar due to an own goal from Lucas Bergvall.
Malick Fofana scored twice in the last four minutes to give Olympique Lyonnais a 3-1 victory over Steaua Bucharest of Romania.
